The Shamrock is Ireland's most celebrated emblem. Its roots dating back to the 5th Century, where legend has it that St. Patrick used it to demonstrate the Blessed Trinity while converting the population to Christianity. Today it is synonymous with Ireland and Irish people around the world.
The Irish Harp, distinguishable by its heavy 'T' shaped fore pillar and thick brass string found popularity amongst the ancient Kings. Irish harpists had special playing skills, famous since medieval times. The harp is not a national symbol and appears on all official Irish documentation and coinage
St. Brigid, a contemporary of St. Patrick is said to have been convertin her father to Christianity when she fashioned a cross from the rushes. In early Christian times farmers adopted the cross and placed them around their land in prominent positions. The tradition is continued to this day, when on the 1st day of February St. Brigid's feast day is celebrated.
